Tieszen Appointed EVP of Strategic Planning

Huntsville, Alabama, September 8, 2003 -- Westar is pleased to announce an addition to its senior management team with the selection of BG Randal M. (Randy) Tieszen USA (Ret.) as Executive Vice President of Strategic Planning.

Prior to joining Westar, Tieszen was the Deputy Commanding General, U. S. Army Aviation Center at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, where he directed the flight training and professional development of over 8,000 personnel and managed a fleet of 700 aircraft supported by 3000 maintenance personnel, 1200 instructors with an annual budget of $780 million.

Prior to that assignment, he was Chief of Staff, V Corps in Heidelberg, Germany, where he directed a 400 person staff to synchronize operations and logistics for 60,000 soldiers operating in seven countries.

Prior to the V Corps assignment, Tiezen was Commanding General, Multinational Brigade-East, in Kosovo where he formed, trained, deployed, and led a 10,000 person, eight nation Task Force conducting peace support operations.

Formerly, he was Director of Operations, Cheyenne Mountain Operation Center for USSPACECOM, in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he directed the operation and support of the Nation’s premier command and control center including managing a $240 million operating budget and a $2.5 billion upgrade program.

Tiezen has a B.S. in Biology, University of South Dakota and a M.A. in Management, from Webster University. He's a Master Army Aviator; rotary and fixed wing qualified and has a commercial pilot's license and over 6,000 hours of flight time.
