Westar Awarded $2.7 Million Effort to Provide Technical Support Services to Army Reset Program
HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Nov. 9, 2006 ─ The U.S.
Army’s Aviation and Missile Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC) has
awarded Westar Aerospace & Defense Group, Inc., a $2.7 million effort to
provide technical support services to the Army’s RESET Program, whose
goal is to expedite the restoration of helicopters returning from Iraq
and Afghanistan to deployable condition.
To support the program, Westar will install an enterprise management
information system at up to nine RESET sites across the U.S. and in
Germany. Called ULLS-A (E), for Unit Level Logistics System-Aviation
(Enhanced), the system will provide commanders and aviation support
personnel with greatly improved access to readiness and logistics
management information, enabling them to make faster and better informed
decisions.
“ULLS-A (E) will provide Army Reset with the knowledge it needs to
reduce operations costs, improve efficiency, and boost the readiness and
availability of aircraft,” said Westar’s Steve Walters, vice president,
Technology Development.
Though RESET is a new customer for Westar, the company has decades of
experience developing and implementing logistics management solutions
for Army Aviation. Westar, in fact, developed for the Army a CTS-A
(Common Transition System-Aviation), an upgraded version of ULLS-A that
the company originally created for the 160th Special Operations Aviation
Regiment. CTS-A became ULLS-A (E) after the Army Chief of Staff directed
the integration and the fielding of the software to all Army Aviation
units.
Westar has already applied ULLS-A (E) software to all Active-Duty,
Reserve and National Guard Army Aviation units. Over the past 17 months,
the software has been fielded to approximately 80 aviation units and
facilities, including five active Army Divisions. This includes the
induction into the system of about 1100 aircraft and the training of
some 16,000 users.
After Westar installs the software at designated RESET sites, it will
send Contractor Field Service Representatives (CFSRs) to each site to
ensure smooth operation of the system and network, as well as provide
any over-the-shoulder training that may be needed.
In addition, Westar will make available to the RESET Program Management
Office, database management and subject matter experts from Bonham
Technologies, Inc., a subcontractor on this effort.
Headquartered in St. Louis, Mo., Westar Aerospace and Defense Group,
Inc. is a systems engineering contractor with more than $200 million in
annual sales and 1100 professionals around the world dedicated to
providing high-value engineering, software solutions, logistics and IT
support services to the U.S. Department of Defense, allied governments
and select commercial customers. Westar is a wholly owned subsidiary of
UK-based QinetiQ (London: QQ.), an international defense and security
technology company with approximately 2,500 employees in the U.S.
