Army Awards Westar $100 Million Contract to Continue Sample Data Collection and Analysis Services
ST. LOUIS, July 27, 2007─ The Army Materiel Systems Analysis
Activity (AMSAA), an analysis organization of the U.S. Army, has
awarded Westar Aerospace & Defense Group, Inc., a QinetiQ North
America company, a five-year, $100 million re-compete contract for
continued support to its Sample Data Collection (SDC) program.
Under the contract, Westar will collect data on equipment usage and
maintenance from garrison environments, field training exercises and
combat areas, and help the Army provide timely, comprehensive
studies and analyses based on the data. Westar’s data collection and
analysis services will be applied to all Army equipment, such as
ground combat systems, tactical wheeled vehicles and aviation
systems.
“Westar’s job is to help AMSAA improve the performance,
availability, maintainability and reliability of weapon systems by
collecting, analyzing and reporting ‘at-the-source-validated’
logistics data,” said Michael Gross, Westar Program Manager, SDC.
“For example, we collect empirical data during periods of intensive
field training to improve the data base and help the Army to compute
more realistic combat usage factors.”
SDC data are used to optimize the Army’s parts usage, maintenance
and manpower requirements in support of combat, peace-keeping and
disaster-relief forces.
Westar has provided AMSAA with sample data collection and analysis
services since 1992, when the company’s logistics information
management arm was then known as COBRO Corporation. Today, Westar
provides these services at virtually every major Army installation
around the world. In addition to the U.S., this includes
Afghanistan, Iraq, Germany, Korea, Kosovo, Kuwait and Qatar.
